Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its base stats are increased in value. This value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive depending on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is due to the variety of perks that need to be modified to upgrade an item.

It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.

Using the item level will allow players to compare the potency of gear when they decide to buy or sell. It's a sign of the damage and its quality. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a seller.

The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full item description, including its value. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are many theories about the method by which the level of an item is determined. One theory says that the level of an item is determined by an equation that determines the worth of an item's stats really are. Item Stats

Item stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game makes use of them in many ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stats of a base weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modification, which are themselves enhanced by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded one time and items with rare tiers may be upgraded several times at higher costs.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However each item will have at least one stat in that range unless they are an exclusive item, or the item is a God Roll from a raid boss.

This is another aspect that can be modified by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item level, and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game, and is therefore more useful in the initial game run as opposed to later ones, since most players prefer higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor, and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) for a further +40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Additionally there are certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are costly and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it does not work.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased as high, and the probability that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The Luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has a success rate of 25 percent and each item with Luck increases this chance by five percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
